![]() ![]() Once an area has been explored, it continues to be semi-revealed after units are no longer within sight of that area (called " Fog of War map masking"): the terrain is remembered, but you can no longer see enemy units on that part of the map. The resolution is doubled to SVGA 640×480 (which still doesn't let you see much of the screen), maps come in multiple sizes, oil is added as a third resource type, naval and aerial units are added, and up to nine units can be given orders at a time. This time, the humans have allies, such as elves, gnomes and dwarves, and form the Alliance, while orcs have allies such as trolls, goblins and ogres, and form the Horde. Barely a year after the release of its popular predecessor, Warcraft II brings a number of advancements to the Blizzard's medieval RTS franchise.
